Transitive and Intransitive Verb


I teach English. (Transitive + object)

I lie in the bed. (Intransitive) it needs no object to give its meaning.

Lie          lied        lied        lying. (intransitive)

She is lying.

Lie         lay         lain        lying (intransitive)

Lay        laid        laid        laying + object

Transitive Verbs

1.  She cooks the meal daily.

2.  She handed me the book.

3.  They built a new house in the neighborhood.

4.  The teacher assigned the homework to the students.

5.  He cooked a delicious meal for his family.

 

Intransitive Verb

1. The bird flew across the sky.

2. The baby laughed uncontrollably.

3. She danced gracefully on the stage.

4. The leaves fell from the trees.

5. The river flows peacefully through the valley.

Note: (from a to z, if any letter pronounces a vowel sound, it takes ‘an’ otherwise no ‘an’)

Definite Article: ‘The’

It is not used with a Proper Noun, but it is used with a Title, and a title can be a Name.

36.             I met a Miss Kausir ( a common noun) who was unknown to me. (a woman)

37.             Ali is the Newton of my class. (as a title)

38.             I know about ______ Newton Issac.

39.             I need a Wasim Akram (a bowler just like Wasim for my team.

40.             I need Wasim Akram for my team. (National Team)

41.             Ali is the Wasim Akram of the team.

42.             Put an ‘r’ before __at, it become ‘rat’.

43.             I saw a rat.

44.             Apples are sweet. (characteristics known)

45.             Girls are talkative.

46.             The girls of G6 are more talkative than that of G8. (when noun is defined)

47.             I have bought a marker.

48.             This is the marker I have bought today.
