Explanation: The first two students were given the prizes. (ordinal number takes definite article, 'the'

Explanation: Many students were absent yesterday. ('many a' takes singular verb, and 'many' takes plural verb)

Explanation: Have you bought any books? ('some' is not used in interrogative sentence, 'any' is used in interrogative sentences)
